“…the most obvious, important realities are often the ones that are hardest to see and talk about.”
— David Foster Wallace
Hello.
I usually go by just "Chang," and I'm a Registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor, which is certainly a mouthful, but it essentially means that I am a mental health therapist.
The quote above is from a 2005 graduation speech delivered by writer David Foster Wallace. If you have heard of this person, you may know that he lived a conflicted life, admired by many, denounced by others, and that he also struggled with clinical depression. While his speech was mostly intended to highlight how deliberate awareness affects our everyday life, this main theme can be easily translated to mental health.
For example, cultivating self-awareness can help us understand the origins of our personality traits, gain insight on internal and external behavior patterns, and increase detection of reactionary responses and triggers. Within this framework, I want to support you in meeting your goals, which can range from alleviating specific thoughts and actions, processing traumas, navigating exploratory and existential crises, mending relationships, strengthening purposeful behaviors, or even maintaining your established stability. There are additional perspectives that I incorporate, which you can read about on the other pages, but my universal foundation is being non-judgmental, collaborative, and holistic.
I know that deciding to pursue therapy and choosing a therapist can sometimes be a confusing and upsetting undertaking, so please continue to consider all your options. Admittedly, this was a long introduction to read, but if you're still here, then we might make a good connection.
Take care.
